Asha Mae

Our little one joined us last Monday, after a relatively quick labour. We have been home for a couple of days now, after two days in hospital and two days at the Hilton.

We are finding our feet as a family of four. So far, so good.

My Partner In Crafty Crime

Welcome to Project Kiddo

Project Kiddo is my new blog dedicated to the crafting I do for my kids, and other kid related stuff! I have a two year old, Miss Ruby, and another little lady on the way - 4 weeks until she will be with us.

I have two other blogs, Fox and Feathers (for my crafty business) and Spinning Pretty (a much neglected other blog), but I really wanted to start one with an emphasis on kids and especially the things I make for my littles. I have been spending a great deal of time making things for my business and friends and family, and feel as though I haven't given enough attention to my own, so this journal will help me document the things I make for Miss R and Miss ?

In preparation for our new baby, I've been working on a number of projects, one of which was a new cot quilt. For Miss Ruby, I did a traditional star quilt, all hand pieced.
Poor photo, the light was terrible today!
This time I wanted to do something quite different. I found this wonderful tutorial on Aesthetic Nest, and thought it would be perfect. I bought the fabric at the end of last year from Spotlight during a sale. Unfortunately the fabric I wanted wasn't available - I'd eyed it off for some time, but at $30 a metre, without any plans I wasn't ready to commit. Then in January at another visit to Spotlight, I found my fabric again!! Hurrah!
I loved the oranges, red, green, yellow and chocolate brown. Of course, red being one of my favourite colours, I chose that, white & yellow for the flannel. I also sandwiched a piece of plain red homespun under the flannel - not in the original tutorial, but as the chenille fluffs up more after several washes you'll see a double red stripe. It is a nice and generous 134 X 95 centimetres and is comfortably heavy.

In the process of preparing for Miss ?, I've been making some things for Miss Ruby. We will be giving her a baby doll at the hospital, so of course it was right that I would make a chenille doll quilt too. I ended up using the fabric that I bought as a substitute last year (of which I have plenty) and will run a few other things for the doll.
The doll's quilt measures 48 X 64 centimetres and should fit nicely in the doll's cot I bought and restored for Ruby last year.
